LUKE 1:39-42 | 39 In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, 40 where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit 42 and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”
Have you ever had a secret? Something wonderful and happy that you wanted to share? Elizabeth had a secret—she was pregnant in her old age. Her husband Zechariah knew but he could not share the secret because he had been struck mute for his unbelief (see Luke 1:18-23). I picture Zechariah breaking out in solitary smiles and silent laughter as he moves about the house. But eventually Elizabeth did have someone to talk to. In today’s scripture, Mary arrives. Now these two women whose lives have been changed by angelic pronouncements and by divine miracles can share their excitement. Who better to share Elizabeth’s joy than Mary? Who better to share Mary’s news than Elizabeth? All blessings are multiplied when they are shared. All fears and troubles are lessened. God provides special people with whom we can share the significant moments in our lives. But we must first find them and cultivate these special relationships. The very best friendships are built on spiritual partnerships. Elizabeth’s task was to raise the forerunner, Mary’s to raise the Messiah.
With whom are you partnering spiritually?
What do you most need to share with them?
