LUKE 1:70-74 | 70 as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, 71 that we would be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us. 72 Thus he has shown the mercy promised to our ancestors, and has remembered his holy covenant, 73 the oath that he swore to our ancestor Abraham, to grant us 74 that we, being rescued from the hands of our enemies, might serve him without fear.
How does one moment in time connect to another? Retrospectively, it connects by memory. Practically, our moments today emerge from decisions, sacrifices, inventions, and processes that began yesterday. The “now” depends on the before.
Theologically, one great purpose unifies every moment. Mercy and redemption and the triumph of love and truth will make all times part of a single divine story. Zechariah knows this. His personal hopes and family moments are connected to the prophet’s dreams of a Messiah, to his people’s hopes for freedom and deliverance, and to original promises made to Abraham.
Do your life moments connect?
How does doing God’s will give unity to our lives and our understanding?
