WEEK 5 | MARK
DAY 29 | JOHN MARK AND THE GENTILE QUESTION
John Mark was a young man and a new Christian at the very
beginning of the church. The internal debates in Acts, which tells
the story of these beginnings, reveal sharp divisions over the
focus of the church's mission. Should the Jewish disciples of
Jesus try to make Gentile converts? And if so, should they
become Jewish first? In our passage, we see a first ever session
meeting called to wrestle with these crucial issues.
This debate reveals characteristic human resistance for the idea of God doing something new. Yet our God is a God who does new things, starts new ventures, calls new people, and teaches new truths.
What new thing is God doing at VPC?
What new thing is he doing in your life?
