The Other Jesus, Part 3, Week 2, Day 7
by David Joynt on July 04, 2018
ACTS 2:1-4
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them.
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
The fire Jesus underwent allowed him to bring the flame of the Spirit to his followers. Pentecostal gifts are meant for every Christian and every family of faith. Just as fire purifies and warms and brightens, so Jesus’ spirit is meant to be a source of light and energy, bringing clearer sight and inspiration to his people. Every warm ember in a fire radiates heat toward the others, enhancing their glow. So our individual spiritual fire ignites other believers.
PRAYER
Gracious God, thank you that through Jesus’ baptism of death and Resurrection, his spirit has released among your people. Let it be for me a spirit that purifies and inspires, a source of life and energy, and an igniter for others. I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
