The Other Jesus, Week 2, Day 3

by David Joynt on June 12, 2018

MARK 10:23-27

Yet Jesus does, in the case of the rich young man, recommend liquidation. He does say that for many people, riches are an obstacle to Kingdom life: “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God!” Now there is a tendency to think that Jesus’ warning to the wealthy must be meant for someone else, with resources far greater than we have.

But before we put ourselves in the safe non-wealthy category, we should pause and consider our relative wealth. We may not be billionaires, but in comparison to almost everyone alive today, and everyone who ever lived in the past, our standard of living is extremely high. We eat, we travel, we access knowledge, and we are served, in a greater way than royalty was in most of human history!

Thank God for your standard of living.
