The Pursuit of Happiness Daily Devotional -10

by David Joynt on January 12, 2021

PHILIPPIANS 2:4 | Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.

One key humility practice is focusing on other’s interests. How will I bless my coworkers today? Which of my classmates or teachers needs a word of encouragement? Does someone around me need protecting? Whose reputation can I enhance? Whose skillset can I enlarge?

Prayer for others is a great start in developing this focus. It reminds us that Christians measure their lives not in terms of their individual achievements, but by the impact they have on others.

Stopping to marvel at other’s talents us one way to “count others better than ourselves,” and to overcome the inner ego drive for recognition, validation, and applause.

Whose interests are you focused on?

Have you learned to pray for others and to celebrate their strengths?
