In our lives too, despite our amazing capacity to communicate and plan, there will be moments when we are caught unprepared by another’s need. If we put ourselves in the place of the man who is suddenly asked to host, whom would we call for help?
Is there someone in our lives we’d be comfortable waking up in the middle of the night? These questions are very revealing when you consider them. They measure the depth of our connection with others and also our sense of identity. Have we recognized that our “vaunted independence” can be sacrificed, and that strong people, not weak ones, can share their needs and lacks?!
Who would you wake up in the middle of the night?
How do you know they’d help without making you feel guilty and a burden?
