The first responsibility of leaders is readiness. In the parable about the waiting servants, they are told, “Be dressed ready for action with your lamps lit.” In the second one, the unexpected return is stressed. No one knows when the Master will come back, and this will remove the urgency and increase the likelihood of un-readiness, unless we are vigilant.
These parables refer to Jesus’ final return and to the many ways He shows up in our lives. God wants to serve His ready saints and bless them—when they are engaged leaders and followers, expecting His presence in their lives.
