The Upside Down World, Week 2, Day 6

by David Joynt on September 22, 2017

MATTHEW 15:8

The average yield in a field in First Century Palestine was 10-fold. No farmer, throwing seeds by hand from a sling-like pouch, was overly concerned when a few seeds got onto the path around his field, or fell onto a rocky limestone outcropping, or got into a patch of thorns. Why? Because he knew once the barley or wheat seeds were down on the baked summer soil, and the earth was turned to cover them, the winter rains would bring germination and growth—at least 10-fold! Jesus talks of 30-fold—a huge return; of 60-fold—a bumper crop, and of 100-fold—a gigantic yield. God’s seed, planted in good soil, has a fantastic impact! There will be failures, but he wants us to know there will be a great harvest.

Do you find this central point of the parable encouraging?
