The Upside Down World, Week 7, Day 2
by David Joynt on October 24, 2017
The cross-cultural spread of the Christian faith is one of the most unique phenomena in human history. Rather than being captive within one cultural matrix, whether Greek, Roman, or Western, it has shaped and been shaped by hundreds and thousands of contexts. Jesus, the First Century Jew, has been adored and followed by people of every background and ethnicity. The scandal of God arriving in one place at one time to one people has become the miracle of a world-wide movement. Jesus also alludes in the mustard seek parable to Daniel 4:10-12, which describes the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar. The king saw a tree “at the center of the earth,” whose top “reached to heaven,” in which once again, “the birds of the air” could rest. The story of Christ’s Kingdom is remarkable as an earthly tale, but it is also a heavenly one. The Kingdom unites heaven and earth, like the great tree.
When we say the Apostle’s Creed, what do you mean by saying “we believe….in the communion of saints?”
