PROVERBS 14:12 | 14 There is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way to death.
As a thought experiment, imagine a world without marriage. Indeed, some people have tried to construct communities that embraced free love and non-exclusive relationships. In theory and practice, chaos ensues. Children born in these scenarios don’t know their paternity and so lose the sense of identity that comes from the generational work of God within a clan. The security of having dedicated and permanent relationships with responsible parents, a mother and father who share responsibility, is lost. Communities without monogamy don’t develop friendships, because all relationships are tinged with a sexual element. Desire displaces covenant. No alternative to the biblical ideal of marriage, from social monogamy to communal alternatives, has proven to be sustainable, effective, or positive.
Why do people resist God’s instructions on relationships?

Forgive our need to experiment and test your commands by trying alternatives. Help us to become wise through your word.
