PROVERBS 16:8 | 8 Better is a little with righteousness than large income with injustice.

My friend Tom once gave a talk to Wall Street executives called, “How to be in the rat-race without becoming a rat!” It can be very difficult, in a hard charging enterprise where corners are frequently cut, to keep your integrity and the eighth command. For instance, false marketing boosts sales but involves a kind of stealing. Similarly, are the bait and switch tactic, the deliberate fog of numbers that hides costs, and the deception that does not countenance negative product effects. Cigarette companies stole the health of people by promoting their product as healthy and later not dangerous, when it was addictive and harmful.

The desire to succeed can become the desire to succeed at all costs and boundaries and limits disappear.

Have you ever felt pressure to compromise your standards?

Gracious God,

Grant courage to resist the temptation to sacrifice integrity for profit or promotion. Help me keep the 8th commandment.

Amen.
