ISAIAH 43:1, 3, 4a | But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;

3For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in exchange for you.

4a Because you are precious in my sight and honored and I love you,

A third reason that gives God’s jealousy a beautiful and tangible reality can be deduced from the first two. This passage expresses God’s deep affection for Israel, His steadfast and tender love; calling to witness both in His role in creating His people and in redeeming them.

Note well, this deduction is not a case of cool reason deducing a cold fact. It is the astonished recognition that despite the nation’s flaws and rebellions, Yahweh cares for them with an unquenchable passion. The deduction complements the subjective experience of His real and inescapably tender love, just as we conclude another person loves us by their actions and also from the experience of their tender and faithful affection. God is Creator, Redeemer and Lover.

Ask God to make His tender affection for you real today.

Gracious God,

You speak to Your children as a gracious Father and passionate lover. Help me hear Your words and feel Your tenderness.

Amen.
