EXODUS 20:7 | 7 You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.
ROMANS 10:9 | 9 because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Another way to misuse God’s name is by reversing roles. Instead of you and I serving God, we expect Him to serve us. We treat God as a wish fulfillment center, a divine figure who can make our dreams come true. The earliest church confession was “Jesus is Lord.” The Greek for Lord is Kyrios, which means the one who is in charge of your life. It can be easy to want Jesus to be our Savior from sin and death, but then resist His demand to reshape our goals, objectives, and behavior.
Is Jesus your Lord as well as your Savior?
Gracious God,
Show me the parts of my life in which I have not relinquished control, where I have failed to live out Your values. May my time and talent and treasure be dedicated to You.
Amen.
