Under Construction, Week 1, Day 2

GENESIS 11:4 | Then they said, “Come let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.”
There is a point in every human life, usually between 18 months and 2 years, when a child discovers the power of self assertion. It is a dizzying capacity! With a single word, usually “No!”, a boy or a girl can bring events to a halt, change the behavior of adults and imprint his or her world. No longer passively accepting the will of those adults who provide nurture and direction, every child begins to challenge authority and exercise ego, pursing their own desires.
In all of us there lives a two year old. The story of the tower in Genesis 11 begins with a group wanting to “Make a name for ourselves.” As we grow, concern about our reputation, legacy and social perception begins to govern our actions and decisions.
Is recognition or renown ever a God motivation?
What are it’s dangers?
