Under Construction, Week 2, Day 11

GENESIS 6:17-19| For my part, I am going to bring a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish my covenant with you; and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you. And of every living thing, of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.
Children and adults love the picture of the Ark, filled with animals in pairs. There is something wonderful and tender about the idea of a floating animal sanctuary filled with the myriad of creatures that run, swim, crawl and fly. The story of the Ark implies, just like the command to Adam and Eve to tend the garden in Genesis 2:15, that we have a responsibility for the creatures of the earth. There was meant to be a symbiosis and even a joyous respect for the diverse population of living things around us. Adam delights in naming them, Noah in saving them.
What animals fascinate you?
Praise God for the diverse and fascinating creatures that share our planet.
Pray for those who care for and protect them.
