Under Construction, Week 8, Day 51

JOHN 13:31-33 | When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been
glorified in him. If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once. Little
children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’”
The disciples had specific reasons for their troubled hearts. Jesus’ movement had generated official opposition and their leader had insisted on a strategy of confrontation, going to the capital, rather than hiding in the rural provinces. Peter had tried to dissuade him and been rebuked. He had told them crucifixion was coming and that he was soon departing.
Nothing is more unsettling for a group than the loss of a great
leader. No one ever led like Jesus. His words were so powerful, his deeds so astounding, his call so compelling. His loyalty and love were so strong and enveloping. No wonder the disciples felt
troubled.
Has a relational loss ever troubled you?
Has a leadership loss been difficult?
