JOHN 14:1, 27-28 | Do not let your hearts be
troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I am coming to you.’ If you loved me, you would
rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.
Twice in this chapter Jesus addresses the troubled hearts of his friends. It is a relief to know that he knows when we are troubled. Our inner distress is clear to him. We may smile bravely and fool our family and friends but we won’t fool our master.
It is such a rare and beautiful thing when two people are in tune with each other, sensing one another’s feelings and moods. Jesus is in complete tune with us. No thought or emotion fails to register with him. This means he is ready to speak into our lives in ways that address the actual state of our hearts and our minds.
Ask Jesus to help you understand your own emotional landscape.
