GENESIS 17:6 | I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you.

God’s promise to Abraham was hard to believe because of his own experience. He lived in a cultural milieu that valued children as a sign of blessing and economic necessity, a measure of personal worth and the only means of immortality. He and Sarah were barren. They endured the social shame of having no children and carried this for generations, watching friends become parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and great-great grandparents. Their family tree had no branches.

Abraham was asked to put aside his bitter disappointment at the failure of his own dream. And he was asked to trust in a far greater dream. Not simply that 99 years of age he could become a father, and Sarah a mother, but that he’d sire more than one nation!

Have you been embittered by experience?

How has God’s big plan intersected with your plans and when?
