GENESIS 17:1-2 |1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless. 2 And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will make you exceedingly numerous.”
With Noah, God makes a covenant with the whole creation. With Abram and Sarai, the universal purpose of God becomes personal. The cosmic plan of renewal turns on a relationship with just two people, one small family. The story of salvation narrows in order to expand.
Abram is called to “walk blamelessly” before the Lord Almighty. He is 99 years old and asked to begin his life anew, with a different focus, a different purpose, and a different partnership. His world view must change. His self-perception must alter. He is asked to be an instrument of God’s plan, a patriarch, the founder of a new people, through whom God will change the history and destiny of humankind.
Do you sense you are part of God’s plan?
How does your relationship with God change your world view?
