JOHN 13:1 | 1 Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
Jesus’ patience during Holy Week was truly divine. With crowds, leaders, authorities, and His own disciples, He could have become angry, disillusioned, or bitter. Instead in public and private, He shared some of the most powerful and beautiful teaching ever offered anywhere. His warnings about judgement echo not with anger but a hopeful desire to see people reform and respond in ways that will please God. His final discourses in the upper room gave His followers a picture of the meaning of His death and Resurrection, and a description of the work and ways of the Spirit He promises to all who believe. Knowing the coming trial, He is totally focused on preparing His people, then and now, for life in the coming kingdom. His patience allowed Him to be present with His disciples and the public in profound ways despite the pressures.
How patient are you under pressure?
Gracious God,
Grant us a portion of Your divine patience. When times are troubled, give us Your peace, which we can sense and share.
Amen.
