2 CHRONICLES 31:20-21 | 20 Hezekiah did this throughout all Judah; he did what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God. 21 And every work that he undertook in the service of the house of God, and in accordance with the law and the commandments, to seek his God, he did with all his heart; and he prospered.
One of the marks of spiritual maturity is whole heartedness. In our society of enormous material comfort, we use technology in clever ways to minimize effort. We water the lawn with an automatic
system, open the garage with a remote, and control our entertainment without moving from the couch. Some are tempted to extend labor saving techniques into a philosophy of life: do the minimum you must do to yield the maximum of enjoyment. Hezekiah’s work approach stands in contrast. His reforms for the nation were comprehensive, taking effect throughout “all Judah.” They were uncompromising in their character, adhering to God’s commands and pursuing what was good, right, and faithful. He led as king “with all his heart,” putting all his spiritual, intellectual, and physical energies into play.
Is there an area of you life where you are tempted to do “the minimum”?
Gracious God,
Laziness is not an accomplishment but a disease. Spur me on towards commitment and investment.
Amen.
