VS. March 23, 2025 Devotional

1 TIMOTHY 6:6 | 6 Of course, there is great gain in godliness combined with contentment;

Charity verses Greed....Charity is the virtue of kindness, care, and generosity toward those in need. It is an active benevolence, which is focused on the deficits, struggles, and challenges faced by others. Greed is the insatiable desire for more—more money, more things, more power, more control. It is focused entirely on satisfying the insatiable desires of our untamed ego and unfettered desire.

This sentence from Paul’s first letter to Timothy has a profound simplicity. Godly contentment is the best gain. So wanting and enjoying what you have is far better than getting what you want. Contentment is the perfect platform for charity. Satisfied with what we have, we can focus on others’ needs.

Are you content?

Gracious God,

Since charity begins with contentment, help me to enjoy my current blessings. Fill me with gratitude that leads to generosity.

Amen.
