VS. March 7, 2025 Devotional

PSALM 90:7-9 | 7 For we are consumed by your anger; by your wrath we are overwhelmed. 8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your countenance. 9 For all our days pass away under your wrath; our years come to an end like a sigh.
The problem of our mortality intensifies in these verses because our mortality roots in our immorality. It is God who turns us back to dust, because we live, as Adam and Eve did, in rebellion and
rejection of our Creator. It is God who sweeps us away, and our years disappear like a final sighing breath, because our sins and iniquities are clear to his penetrating sight. God’s wrath, his fierce opposition to evil and injustice, leads to judgement and death. Yet God’s wrath is not the final word, not the end of the story, for God has also been, remember, “our dwelling place, our refuge, in every generation.” The tension between God’s fierce love, his compassion for his children, and his wrath can only be resolved by the coming of Christ.
Can you feel the tension in this psalm?
Gracious God,
My sins are ever before Thee. Have mercy on me, for the sake of your son, my Lord and Redeemer.
Amen.
