VS. March 8, 2025 Devotional

by David Joynt on March 08, 2025

MATTHEW 26:39 | 39 And going a little farther, he threw
himself on the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not what I want but what you want.’

1 CORINTHIANS 15:45 | 45 Thus it is written, ‘The first man, Adam, became a living being’; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

JOHN 19:30 | 30 When Jesus had received the wine, he said, ‘It is finished.’ Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

The resolution of the tension between God’s just judgement and his love is revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. As the new Adam, he reverses the curse and breaks the pattern of immorality leading to mortality, perfectly fulfilling God’s love and law in his words and deeds. He drinks the cup of God’s wrath, absorbing the holy anger of our Judge. His final breath is not a sigh but a sentence of victory “It is complete/finished.” Sin has been carried and overcome, and so death will be as well, when his borrowed grave cannot hold him. The God from eternity has come into time to share his never ending life with us. He has broken every barrier of separation, freeing us from powers of sin and death, giving us his goodness, righteousness, and divine zoe.

Can you see how the Psalm’s realities change through our Lord?

Gracious God,

When God sees us, he does not see “our sins in the light of his countenance,” he sees the holiness and perfection of Jesus. Hallelujah!

Amen.
