Worldwide Christmas December 31, 2025 Devotional

by David Joynt on December 31, 2025

JOHN 14:6 | Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

JOHN 8:12 | 12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

Where did John get the idea for these startling affirmations? He got it from Jesus, who stated in a matter of fact way in John 8 that He was the Light of the world and in John 14, the "Way, Truth, and the Life." These statements, along with many other similar claims were met with skepticism by many of Jesus’ contemporaries, and sometimes with scorn and anger. Blasphemy was the charge            frequently raised in response to Him. Every revolutionary idea     creates havoc with previous assumptions—just ask Copernicus or Einstein. But the most revolutionary idea in history is the idea of the God-Man, who connects the eternal inner life of the Creator to the mortal human story. This idea gives us access to the heart of God and a clear picture of God's intentions for human life. It makes the words and deeds of Jesus not just wisdom but revelation, and His life, death, and Resurrection not just exemplary, but salvific.

After reviewing these claims, C. S. Lewis said Jesus was either a lunatic or the Son of God. Do you agree?

Gracious God,

May we gain a greater grasp and deeper appreciation for the beauty, mystery, and wonder of Your character and being.

Amen.
