A Manger Seen, Week 4, Day 26

MATTHEW 2:10-11 | When they saw that the star had stopped they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Some things deserve approval. Some acts merit applause. Some people deserve our genuine admiration and respect. But only God calls forth our worship and adoration. The wisest thing about the wise men is their joy at seeing Jesus. They pay him homage.

A wise person knows what is valuable, true and beautiful. For the original wise men, the Christmas story wasn’t just cute or sentimental. It made them want to kneel in awe and wonder and praise—right in the middle of a muddy stable! Approving of God and respecting religion is not enough. A wise person knows what is ultimately precious and celebrates it without reserve.

Do you pay Him homage?
Make 2020 a year when adoration is at the center of your life.
