“I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you.” In the immediate moment, Jesus is reassuring his disciples in the face of his coming death and departure. Losing someone you love is always difficult, losing a leader is always traumatic. Losing a leader like Jesus, adored for his wisdom and grace and power, would be devastating. Jesus assures his disciples that he will not be gone permanently but will return soon and accompany his disciples in a new way.
