Divine Imperatives October 26 Devotional

by David Joynt on October 26, 2023

MATTHEW 6:20 | 20 but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Jesus serves from harmful and fruitless things. He also saves us for great and permanent ones. The 2nd law of thermodynamics and the futility of mortal life do not apply to Kingdom of God. It would seem to say that our best deeds of love and generosity became mere memories that disappear when memories fade or the one who is recalling them dies. But no good or generous act is really lost. For there is one story which never ends, one plot that can include us, which is an eternal tale. Our righteous actions are part of the way God is bringing His creation to permanent perfection. His great redemption story will not end and when we participate in it our deeds will always remain as a small but beautiful portion of it. We’ll have and we will be treasures in heaven when we are made new.

Do you believe your life has permanent significance?

Gracious God,

Let me see Your Kingdom today. Help me believe my life has eternal value.

Amen.
