Finale Revelation and Imagination Daily Devotional- 20

by David Joynt on June 25, 2021

REVELATION 3:19 | 19 I reprove and discipline those whom I love. Be earnest, therefore, and repent.

PROVERBS 3:11-12 | 11 My child, do not despise the Lord’s
discipline or be weary of his reproof,
12 for the Lord reproves the one he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

God’s reproof is a sign of His love! Growth and development depend on finding flaws and misunderstandings and unhealthy habits. This is painful but necessary. The word for love here is “tender affection,” which never delights in correction but is unswervingly committed to helping us become our best selves.

Similarly, effective parents help children and youth identify their areas of struggle as well as their strengths. No athlete, scholar, leader, or disciple can mature without the practice of loving discipline.

How can we tell when discipline is motivated by love and when it is not?
