Finale Revelation and Imagination Daily Devotional- 3

by David Joynt on June 08, 2021

REVELATION 1:3 | Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of the prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and who keep what is written in it; for the time is near.

PSALM 1:1 | Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers.

There are seven instances in Revelation where John blesses his readers (1:3, which is nearly identical to 22:7, 14:3, 16:15, 19:9, 20:6, and 22:14). The word blessed can also be translated “happy” in some versions of the bible, like the King James. But it carries a deeper meaning here and in most other New and Old Testament uses. To be blessed is to receive God’s favor for following His direction, it is to be on the right road. This is evident from Psalm 1 and from Jesus’ beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-10).

Right at the beginning of Revelation, John promises blessing to those who read, hear, and follow the book’s teaching.

Do you ever read scripture aloud? Try it today.

In doing so, you have heard and obeyed!
