Lead Like Moses Devotional 12

by David Joynt on June 23, 2022

EXODUS 3:4-6 | When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then he said, “Come no closer!
Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”
He said further, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.

New beginnings test our faith: Can we encounter God when we go away to college, take up residence in a new city, embark on a new phase of life in retirement? But there is a further belief that is       necessary. We need to expect that God will meet us wherever we go, and that He will use the setting and circumstances to teach and change us. Moses learns in this moment that he is on God’s radar! God calls him by name. He learns God is in control of the natural world and can reconfigure its properties. The bush burns without turning to ash. He learns that wherever God is there is holy ground and that true worship is not limited to shrines and temples. Moses’ moments of dependence and humble work became moments of special revelation and divine encounter. The glory of Egypt is one thing, the glory of God is something else entirely!

Do you trust God can use downtime and reverses to encounter and teach us?
