Lead Like Moses Devotional 14

by David Joynt on June 25, 2022

PSALM 23:4| 4Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Moses eventual role will be to lead a nation, to shepherd Israel. But first he shepherds sheep. The roles will differ, of course. There is less politics with sheep! But Moses learns in the field key ideas for the national task. He will have to take risks for the sake of sheep, fighting predators. He will have to provide sustenance, finding food and water. Both lessons will apply to the escape and wilderness sojourn of Israel. True leadership is always a form of service in scripture, and not a means for ego gratification. Leaders measure themselves by the health and success of others. God used Moses’ Midian period as a preparation for coming challenges.

Who has taught you leadership?

Read John chapter 10 to see Jesus’ reflections on shepherd leadership.
