Leading With an Honest Heart: Day 7

PROVERBS 12:19B, 22

"BUT A LYING TONGUE LASTS ONLY A MOMENT."

"THE LORD DETESTS LYING LIPS."

The next verses in Proverbs warn about the disasters that accrue from acting with a dishonest heart. Spiritual progress stalls because denial blocks the way. Trust is lost. Life becomes complicated and expensive. Think of all those whose job it is to detect fraud! Think of the staggering cost to us and to society of all of the scams and deceptions. Protecting untruths means more lying and additional layers of falsity. Communication is complicated because in every exchange there has to be a discount of claims due to exaggerations. Skepticism grows. Every public lie drains the pool of belief in shared life and practices.

Yet all of this provides an opportunity for us—will we lead with honest hearts?

When have you seen dishonesty complicate life?
