Praising Together for Tomorrow: Day 6

Are you narrow or eclectic in your musical preferences? What do you love about VPC worship?

by David Joynt on November 04, 2016

PSALM 98

Two thousand years of inspired music, sifted through time and culture. Powerful creations emerging all over the globe in the present tense. Why divide the work of God’s spirit through musicians and composers with the broad and unhelpful categories of “traditional” and “contemporary?”  Everything now considered traditional was once contemporary! The term contemporary hides a dozen genres, none of which match, exactly, the shifting flavors of pop culture. Why not erase the lines? Why not create a distinctive worship culture, both broad and deep at VPC? Why not draw from every time and place, the music best suited to grow and flourish in our soil? Tradition needs reinterpretation to live and breathe. The now needs the past for depth and truth.
