Pray Without Ceasing, Week 9, Day 61

by David Joynt on August 01, 2019

PSALM 1:3 | They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.

The natural world is full of spiritual meaning and images. In this verse trees are used to portray God’s faithful followers, whose roots are stream-fed, whose branches are fruitful, whose leaves remain green. Productivity and health come from spiritual intimacy, expressed in knowledge of God’s will and ways and active obedience.

Christians love but do not worship nature—we are not polytheists who see the material world as intrinsically divine. Creation is like the work of an artist, it has derivative glory. The natural world displays the wonder of its maker and reveals much about his character.

How deep are your roots?

Find a tree to meditate on in light of this verse.
