1 SAMUEL 7:12 | 12 Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Jeshanah, named it Ebenezer; for he said, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”
“Here I raise my Ebenezer,
Hither by Thy help I’ve come.”
A second way to tune your heart, with God’s help, is to “raise our Ebenezer.” 1 Samuel 7:9-11 tells the story of how God defeated the Philistines without a battle or a single death. Using his “thunderous voice” he created confusion and dismay in their ranks. Samuel the prophet set up a monument to mark the miraculous intervention. Ebenezer means “stone of help.” It was located between Mizpah and Shen at a place now called Izebet Zarta near Aphek. When current circumstances alarm us we should “raise our Ebenezer” by remembering God’s previous help. This puts current trouble into a different framework.
