The Upside Down World Week 8, Day 3

by David Joynt on October 31, 2017

MATTHEW 6:11

Regular workers in regular jobs have usually negotiated contracts, together or by themselves, which provide legal protection from exploitation. Employers have responsibilities related to safety, fair wages and benefits, property conduct, and so on. The Bible has a deep-rooted concern for justice in the area of work. The O.T. law codes reflect this, as do the prophet’s calls for treating workers fairly. The daily bread provision in the Lord’s Prayer recognizes God as the ultimate provider of food and security, but it implies that godly practices should envelop the entire sphere where “bread” comes from the labor of those who invest, plan, cultivate, produce, distribute, advertise, and sell it.

What do you mean when you pray “give us this day our daily bread?”

Have you ever experienced economic injustice?

FAMILY TIME—

Why does Jesus want us to say “our” daily bread and not “my” daily bread?
