The Week That Changed The World Devotional March 16

by David Joynt on March 16, 2024

JOHN 13:1-5 | 1Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. The devil had already decided that  Judas son of Simon Iscariot would betray Jesus. And during  supper Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God and was going to God, got up from supper, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him.

Jesus knew Judas would betray Him and the others abandon Him. How easily He could have been angry and bitter. Yet, He decided to wash His disciples feet! With the pain and loneliness of the crucifixion waiting, He focused on actions of intimacy and embrace, which modeled love and service. This is indirect proof of His divinity and a surprising look into the very heart of divine grace.

Have you ever been betrayed? How did you respond?

Gracious God,

May Your spirit of grace live in me, dispelling bitterness and enabling love and service.

Amen.
