VPC 2.0 Daily Devotional-19

by David Joynt on October 22, 2020

JOSHUA 24:24 | 24 The people said to Joshua, “The Lord our God we will serve, and him we will obey.”

EXODUS 34:10 | 10 He said: I hereby make a covenant. Before all your people I will perform marvels, such as have not been performed in all the earth or in any nation; and all the people among whom you live shall see the work of the Lord; for it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.

A covenant was made between the people of Israel and their God at Shechem. But wasn’t there already a covenant made at Sinai, with Moses and the people?

But Joshua’s day there was a new situation, new generations, and new challenges. There are many moments we must recommit
ourselves to God and one another. At these pivot points we realize again what is required from us at a particular juncture.
Communities can drift apart, lessons can be forgotten, purposes can be misconstrued. Renewing our covenants is key in our deepest relationships and communities of faith.

If VPC were to construct a community covenant, what should go in it?
