World Changing Words Devotional-Day 60

by David Joynt on September 30, 2020

Daniel 3:16-18 | 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego
answered the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to present a defense to you in this matter.
17 If our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire and out of your hand, O king, let him deliver us. 18 But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods and we will not worship the golden statue that you have set up.”

Babylonian culture offered compelling reasons to conform:
beautiful and enticing worship experiences, and self-preservation. Both fear and desire are leveraged in the service of false gods.

But read and marvel at the brave and matter of fact response by the three loyal Jewish believers. No need to fuss and argue about this! In death or survival we are to serve Yahweh and so there is no need for debate or discussion. If we perish we do so doing the right thing and that is enough, because no earthly authority can rival that of God, the giver of life itself.

Where in your life is your loyalty to God most under pressure?

Where do you feel pressure to conform?
