Under Construction, Week 2, Day 12

GENESIS 12:1-3| Now the Lord said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."
The flood story introduces us to two additional ideas that resonate in scripture and in history. One is the way God pursues a universal purpose through a singular instrument. The focus of the story narrows, from humankind to Noah and his family. Later Abram will be blessed in order to become a blessing to all the families of the earth. In the New Testament the focus is the single life of Jesus, Word made flesh. Yet through him God extends his saving power toward the entire world.
Small stories can become big stories when they are part of God’s purposes.
Do you ever wonder whether your efforts as a disciple are not significant enough?
Pray that God uses small acts of faithfulness in your life and at Valley Presbyterian Church for large purposes.
