Your Summer Reading List July 5, 2026 Devotional

The Widow
Coming up as a teenager in the 90’s I really enjoyed reading John Grisham novels. There is something captivating about parsing human conflict through the lens of our legal system. The human condition is revealed; our need for power and control, the difficulty of saying sorry and making amends, and our inability to just do the right thing are put on display for all to see. In our parable this week we find ourselves in a court room in an on-going legal case. The scene is set for the forces of good and evil, just and unjust, right and wrong to collide—yet Jesus teaches this parable because of our need to be in prayer. Prayer is the way in which we connect with God and it protects are hearts, minds, and actions from losing faith and wandering into temptation. Prayer has a way of giving us a fresh outlook on life in the face of unmet expectations where resentment can take hold. Prayer is a gift. This week enjoy this gift of Jesus’ teaching on prayer.

Describe your prayer life.

What specific actions are you taking to make time to pray?
