Your Summer Reading List June 27, 2026 Devotional

Testimony

My faith journey has unfolded gradually through worship, service, study, and Christian community. I was baptized and confirmed as an Episcopalian, but after marrying a confirmed Presbyterian, my wife and I joined Valley Presbyterian Church more than forty-five years ago. At first, I went to church largely because it was expected. Over time, however, I accepted increasing responsibilities as a deacon, elder, and trustee. Those roles deepened my connection to the church, but I also began to sense a desire to serve in a more personal and intentional way.
As I met more of the wonderful people at Valley, my understanding of church began to change. A transitional moment came when I moved from merely “doing church” to “being church.” Serving in missions, sharing life with others, and participating in Adult Christian Education and the Boomer Group opened new dimensions of Christian fellowship. I discovered that abundant life is not found in accumulating things, but in growing together with others in Christ.
The most important anchor of my spiritual life has been a small covenant Men’s Bible Study, which has sustained me for over twenty years. Studying God’s Word together has shaped my worldview, deepened my relationship with Jesus, and made me a more faithful member of the church and wider community.
