Listen! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell on a path, and the birds came and ate them up. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. But when the sun rose, they were scorched, and since they had no root, they withered away.
Matthew 13:3-6
A walking path is not designed to grow seeds, its purpose is different; it is a walking path. I know this sounds simple but there is truth here. “The walking path receives the activity of the people, not the sower” (Dale Bruner). Too often in life we can be caught up with the trends of the day, dazzled by what the popular people are doing and miss the activity of God in our life.
How are you aligning your daily activity with the purpose of God?
The second soil described is thin and lacking root depth. It can produce a crop but the stresses of the environment will overwhelm its ability to sustain and thrive. God’s word can capture our attention and our imagination; and what a gift that is. We need to respond with obedience allowing God’s word to take root in our life; the Christian life is the long game.
What is your strategy for obedience to God’s word?
