Increase Happens Here

A few months ago, I was walking back to my office after presiding over an interment in the garden. As I passed the café my friend Mike walked along with me (it is good to have friends that walk alongside you). He asked what I was up to, so I shared that I had just finished an interment and was headed to my office to meet a young couple to talk about the upcoming baptism of their baby. He replied, “You are covering both ends of life today.” I responded, “Yup, life happens here at the church.”

⁴² They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. ⁴³ Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. ⁴⁴ All the believers were together and had everything in common. ⁴⁵ They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. ⁴⁶ Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, ⁴⁷ praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-46

The early church was a group of people living in such a way that glorified, called, and drew people’s attention to the reality of God here and now. They knew God was present in this life and therefore lived a life inspired and informed by such a miracle. My hope and prayer for VPC is that we can be a people that live lives pointing to the goodness of God. Life happens here.
